Can I see my college student's grades as a parent?
Yes, if your student shares them. You invite them by email, they accept, and they choose what you see. With the Gift + Dashboard plan you see live grades, due dates, and their calendar as it happens, not just midterms and finals.
Does this violate FERPA?
No. FERPA governs what the school can release. UpAhead is not the school. Your student opts in to share their grades with you and controls exactly what is shared, and they can change it or turn it off anytime. The visibility comes from your student, not the registrar.
Will this turn me into the parent who checks everything?

What does my student see and control?
They see that you were invited and exactly what you can view. They can share everything, share only their calendar, or turn sharing off. Scores, due dates, and progress only appear once they agree to share them.
What exactly can my student choose to share?
When you connect, your student picks what to share using three separate switches: due dates and assignment progress, their course schedule, and their grades, which take an extra confirmation step to turn on. Each switch is set just for you, and a global privacy setting caps what any supporter can see. Course and assignment titles stay visible, but scores, due dates, and progress stay hidden until they share them. They can change or revoke any of it anytime from their profile.
My kid won't want a parent app. Does that matter?
No. Gift it and it is theirs, the tool they use daily to track assignments and grades. Your dashboard is a separate, optional seat that only shows what they choose to share.
How is this different from what my school already sends?
